Smarter Finance for Engineers
Engineer home loans are standard owner-occupier or investment loans selected around the way an engineer earns income. Options can include fixed, variable or split-rate loans with principal and interest or, where appropriate, interest-only repayments. Engineers may work as permanent employees, project contractors, consultants or business owners. Lenders can treat base salary, overtime, bonuses, allowances and contract income differently, so the lender with the lowest advertised rate may not be the lender that recognises your strongest borrowing position.

HOW WE CAN HELP
We review your qualifications, employment structure, income history and property goals before comparing suitable lender policies. Prestige also checks whether any current professional lending benefits are available and packages your application around the full value of your income.

Engineer LMI Benefits
Selected lenders offer professional lending policies for qualified engineers. These may allow you to purchase with a smaller deposit while avoiding the usual upfront cost of Lenders Mortgage Insurance.
Eligibility can depend on your degree, engineering discipline, income, employment arrangement, loan purpose and property type.
Australian Government 5% Deposit Scheme
Eligible first home buyers, including those who have not owned property or land in Australia during the previous ten years, may be able to purchase with a minimum 5% deposit without paying LMI.
The scheme currently has no income caps or waitlists, although property price limits, owner-occupier requirements and participating-lender criteria apply. Eligible single parents or legal guardians may purchase with a minimum 2% deposit.
Australian Government Help to Buy Scheme
Help to Buy allows eligible buyers to purchase with a minimum 2% deposit. The Australian Government can contribute up to 30% of an existing home’s purchase price or up to 40% for a new home.
This is a shared-equity arrangement, so the Government shares in future gains or losses. Income limits, property price caps and ongoing conditions apply.
First Home Super Saver Scheme
Eligible first home buyers can use voluntary super contributions to help build their deposit. Up to $15,000 of eligible contributions from any one financial year can count towards the scheme, subject to a maximum of $50,000 across all years, plus associated earnings.
First Home Owner Grants
Each state and territory sets its own First Home Owner Grant rules. These grants generally support eligible buyers purchasing or building a new home, with the available amount, property cap and residency conditions depending on where you buy.
For example, current grants and eligibility conditions differ considerably across Victoria, Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia and Tasmania.
Stamp Duty Concessions
First home buyers may also receive a full or partial stamp duty exemption, depending on their state or territory, property value and intended use.
These concessions can sometimes be claimed alongside a First Home Owner Grant, but the rules are different in every jurisdiction.
Let’s Find Every Advantage Available to You
We check engineer-specific lender policies alongside federal and state home-buyer programs, then compare the complete cost of each option. That includes your deposit, LMI treatment, interest rate, fees, repayments and long-term flexibility.
